Extra Terrestrial Photo
Later that night after seeing the ball of light in the sky I was awaken by foot steps on the stairs. I knew it could be anyone else in the house because I live on my own. I tried turning on the light in my bedroom but for some reason it had stopped working. From a bright light coming in through the door appeared an alien being.
Sorry to disappoint any UFO enthusiasts out there but this photograph, if you haven't guessed already, is actually a fake.
How the photo was faked.
This is simply a wooden sculpture stood on a tripod. The camera was set to use a 2 second shutter speed so that it would take in a lot more light than would usually be necessary. The camera was held instead of mounted on a tripod to create a deliberate motion blur to make the alien look less static. I put the coat and scarf on the door to give the picture some easily recognisable objects and hopefully add a bit more realism to the photo. I had to take a number of photos to get it right. Using the bright light behind the object takes way the detail and sharpe edges from the sculpture. The dark figure standing in front of bright light also gives the extra terrestrial association from films such as Close Encounters and E.T. where a similar technique was used.
