The Ghost photo.
It was a cold and lonely night. I don't know why I decided to take a shortcut though the church grave yard late that night. It must have been fate that I happened to have my camera with me. A sudden chill feel upon me as I heard a mysterious noise and shuffling footsteps upon leaves. Seeing the ghostly face behind graves to my left, I snapped off a picture with my camera. When I moved the camera away from my eyes the ghostly face was no where to be seen.
Later I examined the photo to see if my eyes had been playing tricks on me. There it was, the mysterious face behind the graves. When I looked closer I could see that it was semi transparent as though it was vanishing into the night. Perhaps a troubled entity still lingering from the past.
Enlargement of the ghostly face behind the grave stones.
This picture shows just the ghostly face from behind the grave stones, so that you can see it better. You can see that the face is semi-transparent and appears to be looking down in the direction of the graves. The rest of the head is not really visible as if it where under a dark hood of some kind.
How the photo was faked.
For those of you who did believe my first paragraph, this photograph is actually a fake, and I'm going to tell you how it was done.
What was needed
- Canon EOS 300D Digital Camera
- Tripod
- Standard 18-55mm lens
- Camera remote
- Ghostly looking grave yard
- Some exterior lighting from the church
- A person to be the ghost
- Good knowledge of photography
Camera Settings
- ISO Speed - 200
- Shutter priority (TV)
- Shutter Speed - 30 seconds
- White Balance - Incandescent
- Self Time - Set to use remote control
How it was done
The camera was mounted on the tripod and position towards the grave stones away from the light. The camera was set on shutter priority (TV) and a shutter speed of 30 seconds was selected. I positioned myself behind one of the grave stones with just my face shown. The camera was set off with its control to avoid camera shake. I remained within the shot for 8 seconds and moved out for the remaining 22 seconds. Using this technique it created a transparent look to my face.
On this picture the face is to the left of the centre and in the background. This is to make it a bit more realistic that a big white ghost standing right in front of you in the middle of the photo looking straight at you. I wanted it to be more subtle and have it slightly hidden so you would have to look for it.
Another Ghost Photo Example
This ghost photo was taken on the same night using the same technique as above. The Jeans kind of give it a way as a fake. Even though people die every day we just don't associate ghosts with wearing Jeans. You will have noticed the circle of light above the stones in the left half of the picture. I have seen these on other ghost photo sites which claim that these are ghostly orbs. They are in fact just light from the camera flash. While this photo was being taken, which took 30 seconds, we set to two portable flashes a couple of times. You can also see these circles repeated faintly about the sky in the right half of the picture.
